Why We Fight
Since the start of ICE raids in Miami, we have seen our community and the communities around us change for the worse. Family owned buisnesses often close earlier than usual and they often close earlier just to stay away from trouble. Neighborhood group chats get lit up with messages and pictures of ICE in the area, and to stay safe if you are around them. It felt twisted that a agency that was created to protect the people that lives under them bring so much fear since we have seen with different cases around the nation even people who have lived here for 10-15 years who have developed and created life here are not safe. Since we live in a densely populated immigrant area of people just waiting for that last step but have been living in the states just like every other person and paying taxes and contributing to this nation as much as the person next to them. We believe no neighbor should have to hide from the very nation they call home.
Our Vision
We imagine a Miami where no immigrant family needs to live under fear, but instead in dignity, free to live out the dream that America has long been known for offering. When we were growing up, we were taught that the American dream was simple: no matter who you were or where you came from, you belonged in America as long as you contributed to this land and lived as an abiding citizen. Today, it feels harder and harder to see that dream realized, as our nation frantically closes its doors and expels people who were only following the very gospel America has preached for its entire lifetime. We want to help restore that vision, beginning here in our home, Miami.
